What is Hypnosis? Hypnosis is a focused state of attention, experienced naturally throughout the day, like daydreaming. It may be experienced as a state of physical and mental relaxation. Some people may feel heavy and lethargic, others quite light. How can Hypnotherapy benefit you? Hypnotherapy is medically accepted to benefit the following:
How does Hypnotherapy Work? Hypnotherapy uses the state of hypnosis (often referred to as trance) to help create new and beneficial thought patterns and behaviour. When you are in this state, your busy and analytical mind - the conscious mind, is more passive than usual and your subconscious mind is able to accept new suggestions. By using both positive suggestions and varied techniques, the subconscious mind can be safely updated to achieve beneficial change. When we experience an event that has left an unpleasant or negative emotion, like trauma, anxiety or a learned phobia, we can address this in hypnosis by reducing the unwanted emotional charge surrounding the event to help us move on unencumbered by the past. Out of hypnosis the therapist and client may use CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) techniques, NLP (neuro linguistic programming) techniques, EFT (emotional freedom techniques) and set, carry out and review SMART goals. (Specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timed). Who is in control? The client is always in control. If the client does not want to accept a suggestion they can stop the session at any time or come out of trance by simply opening their eyes. Hypnotherapy is a positive and rewarding experience for which rapport and trust is essential. Who can be treated? As Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state that you dip in and out of throughout the day, anyone can be Hypnotised. With the client’s attention gained, the process can be truly beneficial. Most children are highly imaginative and make especially good subjects for Hypnosis, responding well to Hypnotherapy particularly for skin disorders, bed wetting, nervousness and other habits. Hypnotherapy may be used to complement any therapy or medication already in place.
